today, our trusty 2010 A3 TDI went back to the dealership to be bought back because of it cheating emissions
and I am very sad.
This was my dads 25th anniversary present. We bought her brand spanking new 8 years ago, and in that time we have put on 230k km. 4 or 5 sets of tires, a set of brakes, and a lot of diesel. She served us well the little thing. She hauled my ass to and from thunder bay 8 times, a 2500km trip each time. She brought me down to north Carolina whilst towing ebay and a CBR. took my dad to and from work for 8 years. over all a fantastic little machine. never let us down ONCE.! all of the german reliability horror stories? none of that with us. I had the EGR flap go twice, and a emissions sensor once. oh, and a flat tire. that was the extend of our issues.
quibles? few and far between. could have used more power or AWD. but meh. She was a work horse, dutifully getting the job done day in and out.
Farewell Herr TDI. you will be dearly missed.

You say ‘she’ but call her, ‘Herr TDi’ (Mr TDi).
Only joking.
Ye’, it’s a shame when you have to part ways from something so trusted and reliable.

What have you got on it’s way.
I cleaned a neighbours Audi A3 TDi the other month. Her girlfriend just wanted a newer car. We don’t have to have the fix if the owner doesn’t want it, which is nice.
She was a 2008 car with only 80,000+miles on the clock. The diesels are holding their value (£3,500) while the petrols are sitting at around £1,000.

Worst of all it will be put back on a Cargo ship to be sold in a country with lower emission standards. That one way trip will cause more pollution than the car ever would have. It will live on, and still pollute the air, just on a different land mass. And it was all for nothing considering air isn’t contained to a country.

Shame to see the little feller go. With that being said, I love the e-Tron, so good choice!

i stopped keeping up with the thing a few months ago. thought they all had to be scrapped?

No it won’t. None of them will. The settlement expressly forbids that. It’ll either be scrapped for parts or fixed and resold here (if it’s one of the models for which there is a fix).

He’s wrong, they’re not allowed to do that. It will almost certainly be scrapped for parts.

To average out your reliable one, my sister had almost exactly the same car (same model year even) and everything broke all the time. The warranty lasted long enough that she sold it back before she actually had to pay for any of it, but it was in a dealer service bay at least once a month, inconveniencing her enormously even though she took excellent care of it.

Why is VW leasing huge parking lots to store the cars that there is no fix for? Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just scrap them as soon as possible?

I remember when my dad really wanted one of these. Such a great looking little hatch. The only thing that stopped him was he couldn’t decide between TDI or Quattro. Really wish they couldve been paired up.

Triggered!!!
You call it Herr TDI, but refer to her with a female gender. Zis isn’t unacceptable, you must refer to her as Fraulien TDI.

I don’t know about what would be cheaper. But there are already fixes for two generations, and they’re waiting on regulatory approval for the third and largest, which of course they may or may not ever receive. Also, I don’t think anyone could possibly reduce 400,000 cars or however many they’ve taken in to parts immediately...or fix them all overnight. They had to put them somewhere.

£1,000 A3? Damn, moderate mileage base Audi A3s cost about €3,500 - €6,000 depending on the generation.

DID YOU JUST ASSUME THE A3 IS MARRIED??

Because there might be a fix. There might not
